Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder, is the World’s richest man with a net worth, as of last week, of $134.5 billion. But, that is about to change as Bezos’s impending divorce from his wife, Mackenzie, threatens to cut Bezos’s net worth in half to $67 billion, putting him well below his closest rivals for the top spot. Reports indicate that there is no prenuptial agreement between Jeff and Mackenzie. That means she could be entitled to half his net worth. Amazon and Jeff Bezos will have to come up with a way to get back to the top.
Jeff and MacKenzie, who share four children, released a joint statement on his Twitter account on 9 January 2019, announcing their split following a short separation:
“We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends. We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends.”

A few days after the announcement, reports emerged of an affair between Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, the wife of WME’s Patrick Whitesell, who is Jeff’s friend. Text messages have since surfaced in which Jeff Bezos is quoted to have texted the following to Sanchez: “
I want to breathe you in. I want to hold you tight…. I want to kiss your lips…. I love you. I am in love with you.”
I guess you can say it is a $67 billion kiss and breath-in that will leave the Amazon founder waiting to exhale.
