BIRMINGHAM, Al — Doug Jones, a Democratic former prosecutor has defeated his scandal-marred opponent, Roy S. Moore. The defeat is as much a defeat of Moore as it is a defeat of President Donald Trump who endorsed and campaigned for Roy Moore in spite of credible allegations of child molestation, rape, pedophilia, and sexual abuse of several women leveled against Moore. It is an upset victory for Democrats and further reduces the razor-thin Republican Senate majority to a single seat. It is also a victory for former president Barack Obama who campained and made Robocalls for Doug Jones.
