President Donald Trump's get-tough immigration policy is producing mixed results. On the one hand, it is forcing many illegal aliens to leave the US, a desirable result even for many advocates of immigration. On the other hand, the reasons given by those emigrating from the US should give pause to anyone who cherishes the twin ideas of America as a nation of immigrants and a land of opportunity standing head and shoulders above other nations. The new emigres from the US are emphatically stating that they are leaving the US to seek better opportunity and for the safety of their families, including their children born in the US who are US citizens.
