"This is Not a Drill:" False Incoming Missile Alert Puts the Fear of North Korea in the People of Hawaii

Hawaii Civil Defence issued a text message

Missile

warning of an imminent incoming ballistic missile. The accidentally dispatched text message, which urged residents to “seek immediate shelter” stirred panic and confusion throughout Hawaii and on social media.

Text of the emergency alert: “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
